We are interested in learning about you and your family!
What is this study about? We want to learn more about the ways in which general family experience and day-to-day family interactions contribute to adolescents’ well-being. We are interested in following how family dynamics among the adolescent and two adult caregivers along with adolescents’ school experience may promote their social-emotional competence, character strengths, and well-being.
What does this study involve? This study will be conducted using on-line surveys that you can complete in the comfort of your own home and easily access via computer, tablet, or cellphone. We are seeking one middle/high school student with their two parents/caregivers from two-parent families (this can be any two caregiving adults that participating youth live with continuously). To start, three family members will complete a general survey about you and your family in about 30-45 minutes. After that, many families will be asked to complete 30 daily surveys that take about 5 minutes each evening. After that, follow-up surveys will be sent out 2 months (only for the adolescent) and 6 months (only for the adolescent and one parent/caregiver) after the start of the study. Both surveys will take about 30-45 minutes to complete.
Will I be paid to participate? Yes! Each family can earn up to $150 for participating in this study. In addition, families with excellent completion will have the opportunity to earn an additional $100 gift card through raffle. The ratio is pretty high: there will be at least 1 winner family in every 5 participating families! By successfully inviting 3 families to participate this study, your family can bypass this raffle and get the $100 gift card as well.
How do I participate? If you are interested, one parent/caregiver in your family must click the button below and provide contact information so we can send your family surveys to get you started.

There is also a simplified version of this study for any type of families (e.g., single parent household, intergenerational household, etc.) with a middle or high school child. Details please see the flyer. If you are interested in participating, please click here to start!
Family Enhancing Emotion and InterpersonaL Competence and Strengths for Adolescent Well-BeING (F.E.E.L.ING)
We are conducting a longitudinal study that involves collecting online data (questionnaires, and daily diaries) from families with at least an adolescent child who is in middle/high school.
The overarching goal of this study is to understand how family dynamics among multiple family members foster adolescent social-emotional competences, interpersonal skills, and character strengths that ultimately facilitate their positive development and well-being.
The overarching goal of this study is to understand how family dynamics among multiple family members foster adolescent social-emotional competences, interpersonal skills, and character strengths that ultimately facilitate their positive development and well-being.
This study will collect data at both micro and macro processes (e.g., day-to-day, month-to-month) on family-level functioning, interparental subsystem interactions, parent-adolescent subsystem interactions, and adolescent individual characteristics. And we will use advanced statistical methods to focus on 1) person-specific processes and trajectories, and 2) nuanced transactional dynamic processes.
